Expanding the boundaries of knowledge production, access and exchange in Singapore.
Although the primary focus of AcademiaSG has been on academia and academic research, we take an expansive view of knowledge — who produces it, the forms it can take, and its wide range of effects. We were therefore tremendously pleased to bring together at this conference speakers working in a wide range of areas and across diverse modalities. Speakers and participants at the conference — artists, journalists, academics, activists — came together to showcase their labour, work that expands the boundaries of knowledge production, access and exchange in Singapore.
Our conference discussed the conditions affecting knowledge-production work in different fields of activity, and identify the most promising ways to connect with one another and with the wider public. We define “knowledge” in its broadest possible sense: not just research findings, but also understandings of humanity and society explored through art, professional practice, and community engagement.

There is a sense, overall, that we don’t all make the same choices about who we want to engage with and the best way to go about it, and that is alright if we are able to build an ecosystem in which different people bring different strengths to the endeavor of engagement.
